Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum and this is my first post! I am just starting out again playing goalie, and have never been able to do a butterfly. I was pretty good when I was younger, and actually won a deck hockey championship playing goalie for 1/2 the season. So, with all these new pads out there, what are some good pads to look at? I will be playing roller hockey on an outdoor surface, much like a smooth tennis court. I am pretty sure they use a roller puck, and not a ball. I guess I'm more of a stand-up goalie, and I'm just looking for some good advice. It seems like most pads are made for butterfly stance, so what are your experiences?

If you can find a pair of Reebok X-pulse pads for cheap, that could be an option. If not, you could look into some vaughns, although they tend to be more of a butterfly pad, they will still do a perfect job as a stand up or reflex goalie.

I had a similar problem when i got my new pads, there really isn't much choice out there anymore. Itech Rx series are supposed to be the best hybrid pad on the market, and I looked into them and liked, but i heard they had problems with the inside stitching if you do butterfly. I would recommend then the koho 700 pads from goalie monkey, i almost got them but just got an insane deal on another set. Or i haven't really looked into them, but the new Bauer x-60 or x-50 series, tim thomas style.

These are all good suggestions, and I'll do some research. I hope I can find some good stuff in Pittsburgh when I go home this week. I really need to find my size too. I don't want to guess wrong on something this expensive!

My sister is probably classified as a hybrid goalie... could be wrong though. But she uses the RX7s and was in love with them after the first ice time.

It doesn't matter what style you play, any of the new pads will work.

Well, here is a list of hybrid pads i know of that you can get easily:

-VAUGHN VELOCITY's (their more butterfly like someone said, but they should do the trick)
-ITECH Rx7 - RX9 (not bad, look kinda funny to me though)
-BAUER X50 and X-60 (my favorite in terms of overall look:price ratio)

Those are the newest ones i know of that you can get easily at your local hockey store. But, i think the older hybrid/ stand up pads are the best. If you can get your hands on those, go for it.

Thats what i plan on getting. I'm more butterfly style, but i think i will do better in a hybrid. Hybrids are more flexible so that means more mobility!

I wish I had a local shop to visit, but there isn't a whole lot of hockey to be played in NW Florida! I'm visiting family in Pittsburgh now and will visit some shops this week. i'll keep you posted. i'll look for some of the pads you guys suggested and see if they have anything.

I'm going to say Rbk X-Pulses are probably ythe best option, or you could find an old set of pads.

I picked up a set of Bauer pads for a great price ($150) so I couldn't pass them up. I think they are react 6, but not 100%. i'll check after dinner. Smile

EDIT: They are the Reactor 6R pads, last years models I think. Boy are they light too!! I don't remember leg pads being so light. I can't wait to get back in the crease!

I started playing years ago before all the new butterfly gear and so I had the same problem when I started playing again. Tried 2-3 pads until I got my Koho 700s with matching gloves. I am in love! I have since gotten the chest pad, stick and goalie bag. If they made pants I'd probly get those too.

Just call me the Koho 700 poster boy. Razz
