Hey, I'm 13, almost 14, and am the only girl on my bantam boys HOUSE hockey league...there is another goalie on the team too. He's related to the 3 head coaches, and has been playing longer than me. We typically split the game time, and halfway through, we switch goalies. That's how it's been all year.
Now it's the playoffs. The coaches owe me a game and a half of playing time, because the other goalie had a shutout and they decided to just leave him in. The coach said I would get my time back. Then, yesterday night, I started the game. I had a shutout, and halfway through, he pulled me. They left the other goalie in when he had a shutout, why shouldn't they leave me in?!
Then, after the game I went up to one of the coaches, and said "Why did you pull me when I had a shutout, and you owe me playing time?!" His excuse was that he 'Had a gut feeling, and that I should worry about the team making it in the finals." What's that supposed to mean? He pretty much just said (to my face) that I suck.
This morning, the other goalie started and had a shutout so far. They left him in until the first period, and then put me in without even telling me to get ready to play. I had no idea I was about to play. I had a shutout so far, and we were up by 1, HE PULLED ME WITH TWO MINUTES LEFT. His excuse after? "I had a gut feeling."
It's HOUSE league. It's supposed to be FAIR playing time. He pretty much proved that he thinks I suck. I'm on a roll lately. I haven't given up a goal in the past 4 games I played, and they were all against the top teams. He leaves the other goalie in when he's on a roll, but pulls me when I'm on a roll.
I know this was a long post, and I apologize, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do to prove to him I'm just as good a goalie as the other kid. I have a higher save % than him, and lower GAA. What are your thoughts on what I should do? |

This happens to mostly everyone sometime in their lives in house league. Since its playoffs, im guessing that the season is almost over? It sounds like your coach is playing favorites, and there's not much you can really do about that. Just be prepared to play whenever, and play your best. That's all you can really do at this point because your coach sounds like a real tool, and they tend to be pretty stubborn. _________________

i think you have been treated fairly and you have seem to play alot... the better goalie usually would play more than an inexperienced of the two..
the big picture is the coach wants what is best for the team i am sure..
dont bring down moral or create distractions, that helps no one...
just take him on the side and sternly, calmly, maturely, "i want to play more coach" |
