the goaltending is just so funny. it's amazing to watch those clips and see how much better goalies are today b/c of the evolution of the position. _________________ Because it hurts so good.

even though UMD lost its still cool that someone posted a link to them (they are the local D1 school) if I am not mistaken Brett Hull was on UMD back then.
as far as this showing the evolution of goaltending, I sort of play the style of goal that the goalies are palying here (maybe thats why I am so bad ) _________________

the entire sport has changed so much. the 14yr old goalies are more technically sound than that... and the fact that it went 4OTs before someone scored says something about all the other positions as well _________________ Because it hurts so good.

?
Dude goalies were all about angles and as far as the players who played in that game...some long NHL carrers, and current NHL major JR and D1 coaches. It was an amazing game, between two teams that were evenly matched. Yes, there in the video at the end, in the 4th OT, they were wicked slow...ESPN needs to replay this game. One of the best all time hockey games I have ever been at or seen. _________________

i'm not talking about their speed or skill, the way the game has changed. the thought that goes into it... the entire game is less "style" and more "systems" down to the position of goaltending. Goaltending isn't just about perfecting each of the saves you use, it also involves strategy on your angles, how you position yourself to encourage certain outcomes, and goaltending theory about how to most efficiently place the bulk of your surface area where the majority of shots are.
just look at the last goal... that was how virtually every goalie would've played that move across the net at the time... now, you use a butterfly slide, or the splits... and the scoring % on that play is still good, but has dropped drastically, not because of talent, because of the understanding behind the game. _________________ Because it hurts so good.
